After news that Shanghai was ranked the most ‘attractive’ city for foreigners in mainland China, Shanghai has now proved itself to be one of the world’s most innovative cities.
According to a report released at the China (Shanghai) International Technology Fair last week, Shanghai ranked 17th out of 100 cities around the world in innovation, Global Times reports.
Beijing ranked even higher as the ninth most innovative city.
San Francisco-San Jose, New York and London ranked first, second and third, respectively.
The study examined 160 cities around the world and rated them in categories ranging from scientific research to technology development to the number universities.
In total, eight Chinese cities made the top 100 list:
Beijing: 9
Shanghai: 17
Hong Kong: 18
Shenzhen: 33
Guangzhou: 41
Hangzhou: 77
Tianjin: 91
